Life in the city today is often a wilderness for the increasing numbers of men and women who live there. Some are anxious about the future, some are unconcerned, most are unknown to each other. There is a great transience, a lack of the rootedness to place that can be commonly found outside of the urban experience. urbanquiet wants to signpost people to places of oasis within and without, in a spirit of welcome and in the sharing of our own experiences as contemplative Christians. Through a variety of publications, workshops, ongoing group experiences, courses of teaching and one-off opportunities of theological and spiritual nurture, urbanquiet aims to encourage the journey beyond the hubbub of noise and activity, to drink from the wells of silence and peace, and to share our search for the presence of God in the midst of the city.

urbanquiet sets itself on searching for God in the experience of city living, seeing the urban landscape as the place of encounter for Christian discipleship, the school of service for the Lord. The city really is the modern desert with its illusions, its greed and its loneliness; but God lives in the city, and its beauty reveals endless signs of his continual presence with us. Through our common search for God, enabled by Christian wisdom dating back to the earliest teachings of the desert mothers and fathers, aims to provide some help as we journey together through our urban labyrinth towards God.
